Amanda Walkins - Senior

 

Amanda is the daughter of Dave and Ginny Walkins. Her sister Amy was a standout in hurdles and triple jump for North Attleboro and currently runs track for Assumption. She also has an older brother Bart and a cat named Eureka.

INDOOR TRACK ' 05 - Amanda qualified for state competition in the 600M having run lifetime PR's at the State Coaches Invitational and Hockomock League Championships. She also competed in the hurdles and 4X400M. At the state meet she will run both the 600M and 4X800M. Amanda was part of the school record-setting shuttle hurdle relay that placed second at the Class B Relays. She is also training for the indoor pentathlon.

OUTDOOR TRACK - Amanda came alive during her junior year, qualifying for state in the 300MH and triple jump. She was a member of two winning relays in the State Class B Relays - the shuttle hurdles and triple jump. She became a member of the school record triple jump relay at 97'10.5". She dipped below 50 seconds in the 300MHurdles vs. Mansfield (49.4). Amanda placed 5th in the league meet in that event and ran on the third place 4X400M team. She came through nig in critical meets and threw 100'10" on her last attempt against Attleboro to win the event and meet. She also ran 2:35 in the 800M this year.

 

INDOOR TRACK - Her primary events have been the 600M, 4X800 and 55M Hurdles. She has qualified for state competition in the hurdles

Other Sports - Amanda is the captain-elect of soccer for 2004. She has played that sport for three years, the last two at the varsity level.

She has run outdoor track for two years. As a sophomore she lettered and received an award as the Most Unselfish Athlete. Her events include the 300MHurdles, 800M, 100MHurdles, triple jump and javelin. Amanda's versatility made her a natural heptathlete and she won the first North Atleboro Heptathlon Invitational in 2003.

Prior to running indoor track Amanda was on the basketball team.

Academics and Schol Involvement - Amanda is ranked high in her class academically. Besides her attention to studies and sports, Amanda is very involved in clubs including SADD, SCAR, and Peer Leaders. She is currently starting a Foreign Language Club. Tres Bien!

Coach's Comments : Much of Amanda's success stems from her wilingness to try anything. Each time she tries a new event "Wally" has found a new way to help the team. Amanda sets a great example for the other athletes on the team with her determination and unselfish attitude.
