When North Attleboro’s Marcus Vaughn won two individual events at the Indoor State Championships, he became the first Rocketeer ever to do so. There were other North athletes that have won two state titles, but always under different circumstances.

The closest to accomplishing that feat indoors was Melody Johnson, who won the state crown in shot put* and placed second in the 55M dash. Though she placed third in the Indoor National Championships 55M that year, she lost the state title race to Jackie Smith who ranked 2nd in the country.

Outdoors three people were double champions by virtue of a relay – all in 1986. Melody Johnson won the shot put and 4X100M relay* and placed 2nd in the dash to Smith. Karen Pearce won the 100M Hurdles* and 4X100M relay*. Melissa Golembewski won the high jump and 4X100M relay* while placing 3rd in the 100M Hurdles.

The only other NA two-time state champion was Emily Estey who won the 300H hurdles and State Heptathlon* in 1997 (the events were on different days and not held as part of the same meet).
