Newport Walk

2/20/05

Newport's famed Cliff Walk was a natural choice. It is not only scenic and historical, but it has some personal relevance. Arlene and I honeymooned in Newport during February just 30 years ago. We didn't do the Cliff Walk that weekend, other than to stand near the ocean in front of the "Breakers". But we've been back many times, doing parts of the walk with family and friends.

We weren't sure if we would be doing the whole walk, so we started at the rustic end, a part we had never walked. The weather was in the 30's and sunny. There was only a slight wind so it was quite pleasant.

We entered the Cliff Walk at the less travelled end.
The weather was comfortable enough so that hat and gloves were optional.
The thawed ground was muddy so the seawall was the most used portion in this area of trail.
Although you walk near the edge of the cliff it is really quite safe.
Well, at least relatively safe.
