Boston
Marathon '05 - Set 1 (24 pictures) |
After
trying two different sites over the last two years I'm back to the Boston
College area at the top of Heartbreak Hill. I missed the women's lead
pack by only a few minutes. I hadn't planned the early women's start properly.
If only I hadn't stopped for gas! |
At
this point the runners are spread out. |
And
I didn't get a clear look at runners #'s |
Here
comes the men's lead pack. |
That's
the eventual winner Hailu Negussie of Ethiopia followed by Robert Kipkoech
Cherulyot of Kenya (5th). |
Currently
in 4th is Wilson Onsare (#3) who ends up 2nd. #1 is Timothy Cherigat who
finished 6th. |
Timothy
Cherigot |
The
top American, Alan Culpepper of Lafayette, Colorado finished 4th in 2:13.39.
He is nearly a full minute back of the leaders at this point but reeled
in two of the runners ahead of him. |
It
was a hot day and water was much in demand. |
Kevin
Kaspzyk, aged 34 ran 2:39 |
Those
who didn't drink the water splashed it on their heads. Here is Todd White
who ran 2:43.26. That 11th in his age group, 40 and over. |
This
was the very top of the hill and many chose a minutes walk to recover.
Notice the trail of water cups. |
Always
a crowd pleaser. |
Matt
Rowell (Babson grad) was in his second marathon. |
The
crowd of runners picks up making it more difdficult to pick out the ones
I'm looking for. |
Here's
Lindsey Finch (upraised hand) , currently a Harvard Law student. Coming
off a stress fracture she was off her PR but well under her target time. |
Lindsey
continues down the hill. |
All
ages, from every state and many foreign countries, they continue to come
to Boston. |
The
top of the hill is often where the leg cramps set in |
Getting
a close look at the action |
How
many of these steps does it take to run 26 miles? |
At
the top of the hill some walk a few steps |
One
of the more enthusiastic supporters . . . |
Was
asked to curb his enthusiasm - or at least get out of the street
