Ocean City Boardwalk
Another runner joins the early morning crew on the Ocean City Boardwalk. At this hour (6:30AM) the marked lanes mean little.
It's an early morning blitz as runners enjoy open space and a cool fog.
Brother and sister Mark McLoughlin and Christine Dougherty (Kennett Sq. PA) take a break from their run to explain how they're taking the opportunity to get back into shape. I saw them out jogging the next day also.
OC resident Susan Lowe has been running here for twelve years and says the boardwalk is definitely part of the attraction.
Sixty-five year old Joe Rubifein of Florida started running at age 49 to keep in shape for golf. He's given up golf but keeps running daily because he enjoys it. He can't stop to talk because he's only partway through his seven mile route.
After two years of middle school XC Alex Higley is preparing for his first season running for Abington Hts. High School in PA. He took time out from his five miler to talk. The next day he was spotted burning up the boards even earlier.
The sign points the way!
Successful Ocean City coach Kevin Greene is pictured here with daughter Caitlin. She was one of her team's four league all-stars as a sophomore and is looking forward to this year.
My wife Arlene also got in some early morning runs. She enjoyed the relative safety of the boardwalk as compared to all the street crossings necessary when running the OC roads. (there are no pedestrian walkways)
Randolph HS in preseason training at OC. They rent a house for the first half of the week and the boys' team comes in for the second half.
It's all about bonding, team smiles and seven mile runs for Randolph HS.
An unidentified runner heads off into the mist.
Mandy Hafner is up from Asheville NC and was a daily fixture on the boards. She is this week's featured runner and I'll be posting an article about how running has improved her life - and health.
